proper lbc closing sale
with 70% off retail prices
proper is one of long beach’s (lbc) longtime retailers, stocking the 562 area code with vans vaults and 1970’s converses long before they were cool. unfortunately for them, we now live in a year where those are heavily mainstream (sitting on shelves at most nordstroms) and they have just announced their closing sale
- their instagram feed & sale renaming -
last week we talked about alumni’s closing (and subsequent re-opening) sales, but in general the future for streetwear boutiques does not look too hopeful. stashed in sf silently closed its doors after its most recent sale, and with proper re-naming its “closeout” sale to “closing” sale, who knows how many days are left for any retailer who peaked in the 2010’s
even though there’s a lot of unsold inventory from that era (i.e. billionaire boys club merch that looks like it belongs in a 2018 complexcon photo) there’s a selection of decent pickups still available on their online sale that are worth buying in 2024, if not for an effort to keep the dying retailer alive
right now their sale is at 70% off, which applies to all of the items on their website, and may go to further reductions as time passes and streetwear’s will to live slowly fades from existence
proper lbc sale selections
it’s honestly pretty sad to see these stores closing, as most of these retailers have a physical presence that builds community and its local fashion flavor. it’s understandable that more curated online feeds and influencers can serve as a replacement for this function, but it feels soulless to take style recommendations from a dude on a screen rather than a physical space where you can see the garments and talk to the types of people who wear them
in order to prevent more stores from closing down before the black friday season:
go to your favorite store
buy something small @ full price
tell the retail employee that they are appreciated
